Prepare for Bighorn Trail Run

A plan built from your answers and your race date.

The Bighorn Trail Run takes place in the Bighorn National Forest in northern Wyoming, between Dayton and Sheridan. The terrain is classic Northern Rockies: high meadows, conifer forest, narrow singletrack and stream crossings. The course climbs to around 3,000 m, a factor worth planning for if you live near sea level.

Four distances share the weekend: 100 Mile, 52 Mile, 32 Mile and 18 Mile, which opens the event to seasoned ultrarunners and to people stepping up to long trail for the first time. Registration is scheduled to open on October 15.

When to start

At this distance, a build usually runs 12 to 24 weeks. The 2027 date is not published, so counting back from June puts the start around December 28, 2026.

These ranges are working conventions, not a research finding — no trial has compared plan lengths against each other. What matters more is that the plan was built for the weeks you actually have, rather than shrunk down from a longer one.
