The Broad Street Run crosses Philadelphia from north to south, following Broad Street, the avenue that defines the city's grid. The course is entirely urban, on wide, straight pavement, which makes it one of the fastest routes on the American calendar. Spectators line the whole distance, and each neighborhood the race passes through brings its own character.
One distance is offered, the 10 Mile. The race ranks among the largest 10 mile events in the world, with roughly 40,000 entries awarded through a lottery, so planning ahead matters.
