The race is staged in Calgary, in southern Alberta at the edge of the Rockies. The route mixes city streets with long stretches of pathway along the Bow River, on fast, well-surfaced ground. Late May weather in Alberta is changeable: cold mornings and wind are possible, and so are mild, dry racing conditions.
Four distances are offered: marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K, spread across a two-day weekend. Exactly which races fall on the Saturday and which on the Sunday has not yet been published. The event is billed as the oldest marathon in Canada still held today.
