The Lilac Bloomsday Run takes place in Spokane, in eastern Washington State. The course is urban and entirely paved, working out through the city before turning back toward downtown. Spokane's terrain delivers some climbing in the second half of the route, but the course stays runnable and welcoming to a very broad field of participants.
The race owes its reputation to its size: it has historically ranked among the largest road races in the United States by participation. A single distance is offered, the 12K, which puts the entire field on the same course and produces the atmosphere of a genuine mass participation event from front to back.
